Being Elite

“Being elite is wanting to do what you have to do.” PJ Fleck, University of Minnesota head football coach.

We run into it all the time. We go through a period where we are engaged. We are excited. We approach our work with enthusiasm. We bust our ass. We get things done.

Safe. Housekeeping is great. Numbers are rising. We see results.

Then, complacency creeps in. We quit doing the little things. Performance slips. We slow down our steps. Boredom replaces excitement. Engagement wanes.

And, you look around and wonder what happened.

Fleck’s quote says it all. You can be good when you put your mind to it and bring it. You can be elite when putting your mind to it is what you do. All the time. Because it’s your heart’s desire.
