This is commencement season and I’m aware of the many graduation events being celebrated.

I’m a fan of commencement speeches. The Internet is full of them these days.

You can Google “commencement or graduation speeches” and have an array of celebrities sharing their thoughts on life. I find it uplifting.

I caught Charlie Rose, interviewer extraordinaire giving one the other day.

He referenced a short commencement speech by Henry High.

Here it is:

“Know yourself” Socrates

“Control yourself” Cicero

“Give yourself” Jesus

Self-aware folks steer themselves toward their strengths and avoid the rocky areas that cause them setbacks. Humble, accomplished folks understand you make the greatest impact through selfless generosity.

Hard to receive a better instruction set than Mr. High offered.
