I discovered a website called the Positive Coaching Alliance. It’s emphasis is on better coaching, better parenting and better participation.
Amongst their stated aims is the “The Triple-Impact Competitor®, who strives to impact sport on three levels by improving oneself, teammates and the game as a whole.”
“Triple Impact” is a nice framework.
Start with improving yourself. Good teammates hold their own. They work on their craft. They bring creativity. They are accountable. They do their jobs. Someone committed to learning and to improving inspires confidence.
Improve your teammates. The new Florida football coach Jim McElwain hasn’t selected the starting quarterback for the coming season. When asked the deciding factor, McElwain said it wasn’t athleticism or arm strength that will determine his choice. “I like quarterbacks who cause their teammates to play better. That’s the one we will put out there.” We know what those kind of teammates look like. They provide support. They create high expectations. They demand high performance. They show the way.
Improve the game as a whole. Our organization won’t last if we don’t make a difference. Our customers need to be well served. Our vendors need good partners. The communities where we live should be better because of our presence.
Have a triple impact.
