Heroic Acts

Yesterday 70-year-old James McCloughan was awarded the Medal of Honor by President Trump for his heroic acts in the Vietnam War in 1963.

A medic, McCloughan repeatedly returned to the kill zone to haul out his wounded mates. He was responsible for saving ten men.

He was wounded in the process. His captain urged him to get on a med evac helicopter. McCloughan refused. He told the captain “he would be needed.”

He said he couldn’t imagine being alive in the hospital when his teammates were in peril.

He said he was grateful for the lessons his father taught him. “He always told me to do any job I was assigned to the best of my ability. Do nothing half way.”
