Another note from a sermon by Bill Hybels.
He was describing visiting with a dying man who had achieved great personal success and business success. As he lay dying, he was confident in the impact and legacy he was leaving.
“I attribute my good fortune to some phrases I used repeatedly to my family, colleagues and friends. Here they are:
You can do this.
I believe in you.
I trust you.
I need you.
I am proud of you.
I respect you.
I love you.”
Hybels called these “life giving” words. I admit that anyone who has said these kinds of words to me has caused me to stand a little straighter and feel more confident. It has built me up. That’s what life giving feels like.
