What’s it like to be on the other side of you?
I heard a series of sermons lately that started with that question. It was called “Climate Change.”
According to the preacher Jeff Henderson of Gwinnett County, Georgia, we all travel around with a climate. It sort of reminds me of Pig Pen in the Charlie Brown comics. Everywhere Pig Pen went, he had a cloud of dirt discerning his “Pig Pennishness.”
What’s your climate? Rainy, cloudy, sunshine? Most of us go through life unconscious of the climate we project. I know there is a climate I would like to project but I’m not always sure I do it.
Henderson’s starting point is to encourage folks to get a sense of the climate they are projecting. The only way to do that is to ask for feedback. Thus, his question: “What’s it like to be on the other side of me?”
Ask your spouse. Ask your kids. Ask those who are close to you at work. Ask folks who will tell you the truth.
See how close you were. If you don’t like what you hear or are surprised at it, it should be a boost to you to consider a change.
