CHOOSING HARD THINGS

β€œWe choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.” – President John F. KennedyΒ Β 

As I read this, it caused me to reflect on hard things.Β Β I’ve been part of hard things before.Β Β Β 

Sometimes they were forced upon me.Β Β The circumstancesΒ causing them were beyond my control.Β Β But I had to deal with them.Β  Β 

Sometimes I caused them.Β Β Through inaction or negligence.Β Β I should have known better.Β Β I should have seen it coming.Β Β But eventually, I had to deal with a hard thing.Β  Β 

President Kennedy talked about β€œchoosing” hard things.Β Β He inspired choices that are ambitious.Β Β He said, β€œlook to the things that you don’t think are possible.”  He said, β€œlook to the things that will take more work and effort than you have put forth.”  Β 

Choose to break a hard habit.Β Β Choose to embark on a tougher course of learning.Β Β Acquire a skill that takes hours of practice and instruction.Β  Β 

Not because it’s easy.Β Β But because it’s hard.
