I caught a video of Coach Arvin Mosley Jr. speaking to young athletes.
He said coaches want players who control their EARTH.
It was on point.
Effort – control your effort. At the end of the day, you are the only one who knows if you could have tried harder or done better. It’s a choice you make daily if your effort is upper-class.
Attitude – Bring a positive, can-do energy. Be engaged on your team.
Response – He said many of us “react” to situations. But the better way is to pause and choose a “response.” Responders maintain a problem-solving approach.
Thoughts – This is a favorite. If we let it, the dialogue in our heads can be negative, snarky, and full of doubt. Don’t listen to yourself. Talk to yourself. Take control of the dialogue.
Habits – We are the sum of our habits. We have them. Each habit is good for you or bad for you. Hopefully, you have built more good ones than bad ones. You are adding regularly to those habits that are constructive.
Be a player who controls your EARTH. Be a leader and model for those around you to follow.
