Here’s a Super Bowl quote for you:
“It is not all about talent. It’s about dependability, consistency, being coachable, and understanding what you need to do to improve” – Bill Belichick.
Belichick is the future Hall of Fame coach of the New England Patriots who will be playing to regain their world champion status in the Super Bowl next week.
If you follow the Patriots and Belichick, you know he’s a master at building a team. His roster often changes. He constantly tweaks his team. He combines underrated rookies, disgraced veterans, players with long records of consistency and professionalism.
The quality of his team is based on “character.” He lines up his team. Teaches them what he wants them to do. Implores them to do their job to the best of their ability. And, it has a way of working out for his team.
It’s a lesson to each of us:
Coachable? Are you open to learning and change?
Consistency? Can you be counted on to work to a higher standard?
Dependable? Day in and day out.
None of those has to do with IQ, education or talent. It all has to do with personal intent to make a difference.
It works for football. It works for business.
