Intentional Safety vs. Regret

Common words after an injury: “I’m sorry.”

The injured person says it because he didn’t do something he should.

Didn’t lock out. Didn’t follow a proven method. Didn’t pay attention.

Colleagues say it. Usually because they could see it coming and didn’t act. No one likes to see a colleague hurt. We regret it especially when we could have done something about it.

Supervisors say it. We say it when we fall short on training. Or when we see a maintenance issue has been ignored.

We never intend to have injuries. But, after an accident, we remember we have to intend not to have them.
