JOB EVALUATION ASSESSMENT

While at the National Wooden Pallet and Container Association, speaker Mike Paton said that we should evaluate how we match up with our jobs by using the acronym, GWC:

  • Gets it – Your current job aligns with your skills, ability, education, and interest. You “get” what it takes to do the job.
  • Wants it – Your job excites you. You look forward to it. Your participation in your job gives you a feeling of satisfaction, competency, and accomplishment.
  • Capacity to do it – Your job isn’t too big or too complex to handle. You have the training and the resources. You can hit the marks required. Sometimes jobs are poorly structured and can’t be reasonably completed. Sometimes they are too big. Sometimes the job is right-sized, but the person in it still needs to develop in order to meet its requirements.

So, you can use GWC for your own personal assessment.

If you are a leader, you can use GWC to evaluate the effectiveness of each person on your team and use that evaluation to “coach.”

It’s an interesting model.
