Reflecting on Our β€œLean” Journey at PalletOne

At PalletOne, we talk a lot about β€œlean.” It occurs to me that some of you might not have been here when this approach was first introduced.

β€œLean” companies believe that customers only want to pay for β€œvalue.” To deliver that, we focus on eliminating any waste associated with producing the product.

Waste can come in the form of wasted time, wasted material, or wasted motion. A β€œlean” company is always engaged in self-studyβ€”constantly looking for areas of wasted time, material, and motion. And when they see it, they take action to improve.

A β€œlean” company treats eliminating waste with a serious commitment. It remains humble, always looking for ways to be better. It stays diligent and alert to opportunities for improvement. It remains accountable, with everyone understanding and upholding the standard.

As you read this, ask yourself: β€œIs this true of the area where I work?”

If the answer is yes, this may help you understand how our culture has evolved. But if the answer is no, you have a basis to speak up. You can say, β€œWe aren’t as lean as we should be.” You can point out, β€œHere’s some waste we can address.” Together, we can be accountable and work to make our service and products even better.
