“Knowing your number” is critical to being engaged in your work.

In many of our plants, we have installed monitors that give feedback on production in real time.  We provide a measuring tool to help determine whether the production level is suitable.

Recently, I walked through some plants where that kind of feedback isn’t readily available.  You can tell the difference.

Timely feedback allows you to adjust quickly.  It creates striving.

My experience is that it’s rare for someone to see their results displayed and not respond to them by adjusting.

Here’s what I know. If you show a “winner” the result and a basis for comparison, a “winner” will accept the challenge to get better.

Measurement is our friend.

It creates individual motivation.

It raises engagement.

It identifies those who have the most potential amongst us.

It is a valuable tool in coaching, teaching and leading.
