Stay alert for opportunities to make a real difference

Do you want to have an impact as a leader and teammate?

In his book Uncommon Greatness, author and leadership pro Mark Miller listed practical ways to make a difference:Β

Encourage them.
Recognize them.
Coach them.
Correct them.
Empathize with their situation.
Ask their opinion.
Offer a genuine compliment.
Thank them.
Acknowledge their strengths.
Offer a silent prayer on their behalf if you are a person of faith.
Be present during a challenging life circumstance – just show up.
Share a smile – a simple gesture that can lift someone’s spirits.
Provide resources (a podcast, a book recommendation; in some cases, you can provide tangible resources like a gift card to a local restaurant for the person experiencing a difficult time financially).

How do those behaviors compare to yours in the last day, the last week, or the last month?

We want to actively create an environment where everyone feels Known, Needed, and Connected to our efforts every day.Β

When you look at that list, note it doesn’t take any particular training or education to make any of those things.Β

It takes awareness.
It takes alertness.
It takes intention.
It must be authentic.Β

Commit to step up your game. At work. At home. With friends.

See what happens.Β
