Trying New Things

Traveling to a foreign country reminds me of the stimulation of trying something new.

When you are in a strange environment, your whole body goes on alert. You don’t recognize the language. You don’t know the methods. It is disorienting.

But, it’s fun. It gets the adrenaline going. It is a challenge.

I was having a discussion about the different ways people process things. For some people, trying out something new is exciting. It energizes them. For others, something new can be determined to be a risk best avoided.

Let me suggest to you that trying something new is worth considering. The more you try new things, the more you gain comfort in stepping out.

A favorite artist of mine was Dan Fogelberg. He wrote a song that went something like this:

“The higher I climb, the more I see.
The more I see, the more I know.
The more I know, the higher I climb.”

Climbers try new stuff. New stuff inspires growth. Growth encourages you to do it all over again.

When’s the last time you tried something new?
