HOWE Q. WALLACE BLOG

Waste

Our lumber is markedly more expensive than a year ago. In every phase of our business, we are spending more for it than we were a year ago.

When lumber is more expensive, the cost of waste rises. It’s the nature of our business that material that goes in the dumpster may be ugly, but we paid the same for the waste as we do for the good pieces.

The more expensive our raw material, the higher our waste.

As operators, we need you to be alert to
things we do that waste lumber.

Using the wrong size to get finished components wastes wood.

Setting the saws up incorrectly so wood is mismanufactured wastes money.

Letting wood sit to long in small packs waste wood.

Lumber that rots due to poor rotation can cause financial loss.

When you see us wasting wood, speak up. It’s more expensive than its ever been.
