What Job Is Your Product Hired to Do?

One way to think about a product you sell is to answer the question: β€œWhat job was that product hired to do?”

Customers hire our treated wood for outdoor construction projects, where it’s exposed to the elements. It withstands harsh weather and insect attacks. It doesn’t rot or require replacement. It’s reliable and safe for anyone relying on it to bear weight. We package it to ensure easy identification, making the customer’s shopping experience smoother, requiring less personal touch at the point of sale.

Businesses hire pallets to bear the weight of the loads they’re designed to carry. Pallets must be free of things that can damage the load, like exposed nails, or harm workers, like broken boards. When needed, they are marked to identify who is shipping the goods. The pallet is built to streamline the shipment of goods from production to use.

As the creators of these products, our job is to make someone’s life easier or better. Treated wood isn’t just wood. Pallets aren’t just pallets. Someone is hiring the wood and the pallets to do a job. Our responsibility is to make sure they’re not disappointed.
