Are you registered to vote? When was the last time you voted?
I am paying attention to the dialogue going on in our country these days. There are widespread calls for “change” being directed to the leaders in our communities, our states and our country.
For changes to take place, those elected to office have to be prone to listen to our voices. One of the ways to do that is to make sure you vote. It is easy to believe that one vote doesn’t matter; but when most of you believe your vote doesn’t matter, you make that belief a certainty if your votes are not cast on Election Day.
I’ve asked our HR team to look into how we can have an impact in helping you vote. So, in the weeks to come, we will be assisting you in understanding how to register to vote. Where we can, we will bring forms and information to work so you can sign up. If you need our help or have questions, we will endeavor to respond to those needs.
Once registered, we will work to help you exercise your right and responsibility to vote. Every community is different, but many are providing means to vote by mail or absentee ballot. We will make sure you have that knowledge as well.
Finally, if you aren’t able to vote by mail, we will research how to make voting possible on Election Day. We recognize our work schedules limit that flexibility. We will come up with local strategies to permit it.
Let me assure you, this effort is about expanding your role in making things happen in your community. You have more power than you fully understand. I’d like to see you use it.
As a company, we won’t try to influence you one way or another. For me, it’s not who you vote for that is important. What matters most is that you had a chance to vote and made it count.
