SEVEN WAYS TO GET RID OF A NEGATIVE ATTITUDE

“Where is your mindset after something bad happens to you? The fact is, none of us controls what happens to us in life – but we do control our responses to those circumstances.” – Villanova Basketball Coach Jay Wright

Your attitude is a daily choice.

It’s a choice to respond to adversity, not surrender to it.

There will always be adversity, but your attitude and mindset will determine how far you go.

Seven Ways to Get Rid of That Negative Attitude:

1. Take Responsibility for Your Thoughts and Actions – Recognize that you can control how you respond. By taking responsibility, you shift from a passive to an active role. You can better manage your emotions, leading to a more empowered and positive outlook. Your thoughts shape your reality.

2. Regulate your Self-Talk – Acknowledge unproductive thoughts as mere mental events and redirect your focus toward constructive, task-related thoughts or phrases that build confidence.

  • Your thoughts influence your feelings and emotions.
  • Your thoughts, feelings, and emotions influence your behaviors.
  • Your thoughts, feelings, emotions, and behaviors influence your performance.

Know the phrases and dialogue that help you feel a certain way.

3. Adhere to the No Complaining Rule – Challenge yourself to avoid complaining, steering your mind towards solutions instead of problems. This practice cultivates a solution-oriented mindset. It reduces your negativity and negative self-talk. Complaining less opens doors to more hope and possibility.

4. Practice Being Present – BE HERE NOW. When you focus on the present, you reduce stress and anxiety because you aren’t worrying about the past or anxious about the future. This helps you identify negative patterns and replace them with positive ones. It improves your self-awareness and mental fitness. As you reflect, you learn and grow.

5. Create an Attitude of Gratitude – Feed yourself positivity, gratitude, and greatness instead of listening to complaining, negativity, and doubt. Spend time thinking about the positive aspects of your life. Research shows that practicing gratitude daily can lead to improved mood and overall well-being.

6. Create a Change in Your Habits, Mindset, and Language – Accept and direct change in your daily routine. Small changes lead to significant transformations. Look at what you consume, how you talk, and how you start and end the day. Collectively, these changes can transform your overall perspective, leading to a more joyful and fulfilling life.

7. Engage in Physical Activity and Self-Care – Regular physical activity boosts your mood and overall well-being. Say it and do it. It helps to combat stress and negativity, making you feel more energetic and positive. Exercise not only changes your body but also your mind.

“The most important characteristic any of us have is our attitude. It’s a concept that permeates everything you do. We all bring our attitude to every situation.”- Jay Wright
