RESOLUTIONS – PART 1 – WHAT HAVE I LEARNED?

Jocko Willink, a former Navy Seal who speaks and writes about leadership and discipline, asserts you will grow if you will ask yourself seven questions every day and then act accordingly the next day, based on how you answered them.

I will spend the next few days reviewing each question one at a time. Here’s the first question:

 What have I learned?

Do you set yourself up to learn? My go-to strategy is reading. I love to read. Most people don’t. I have two or three books going at any given time. Rare is the day I don’t enjoy 30-60 minutes of reading a good book.

I also use my commute time to listen to podcasts. I have a list of podcasts cued up on my phone. If I’m in the car for 30 minutes, I listen to someone who helps me think differently about the world.

My conversation style centers on being curious. Ask questions versus talking. I take in new information whenever I can.

I keep notes. It’s one thing to hear something interesting, but writing it down helps me to put it to use.

I like to teach. I can incorporate and internalize the learning better when I can share what I learn with someone else.

I’m inspired by leaders who are getting it done in their fields. Especially coaches and business leaders. I am curious about what works.

Set yourself up to learn.
